Prime Meridian is a South Africa based insurance company, offering motor, life and hospital insurance to normal income locals. Offering the lowest price plans and striving for pure and simple solution. Taking the complications of excesses and comprehensive cover out of insurance, Prime Meridian offers car, personal and hospital cover direct to the public. They have simplified short-term insurance by cutting out expensive benefits. They provide the following types of cover.
Prime Meridian motor insurance
Although it’s called Total Loss Protection, Prime Meridian’s car insurance is not comprehensive. It covers your vehicle for theft and hijacking, third-party property, and accidental cover and write-off (even as a result of fire and natural disasters). The third party cover though only protects the insured if the damage he or she caused to the third party vehicle is between R10 000 and R250 000. If it’s more (or less) than the insured will have to cover him- or herself.
What’s great about Prime Meridian car insurance is that they do not require an excess to be paid. While this exposes them to more risk, they limit this by only insuring drivers over the age of 20 years. They also provide dent, scratch and roadside assistance in their cover. (Roadside assistance includes assistance for mechanical and electrical breakdown and running out of fuel, as well as a hire car in the event that the breakdown requires more extensive repair.)
Prime Meridian personal cover
Functioning like funeral insurance and credit shortfall cover, the Prime Living Legacy Plan insures funeral costs and outstanding medical expenses in the event of death of the insured, as well as bond and vehicle payments. It may also include ordinary living costs for the family.
Despite being called a legacy, the cash benefits are limited to R270 000. It does not require a medical exam, which means insureds are guaranteed cover for accident and illness. The cover also includes automatic annual inflation adjustments and may be taken out for a spouse and up to four children.
Prime Meridian hospital plan
The hospital plan by Prime Meridian is not a medical aid, but functions as hospital cover. That is, it does not cover the medical expanses of a visit to or a stay in the hospital, but rather covers income lost while the insured is in hospital. The cover pays up to R4 000 per day (up to R120 000 a month). The cover also includes accidental disability benefits and includes any hospital stay whether personal accident or illness.
